Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT)

CBT is the integration of both cognitive theoretical views and behavioral theoretical views. Cognitive models focus on explaining behaviors as originating with one’s thoughts and ideas about experiences. Cognitive approaches sometimes take the nature position, in the nature versus nurture debate, suggesting that manifesting behaviors are ultimately embedded in the neurological wiring of the brain. Behavioral models focus on explaining behaviors as results of learning and observations. Behavioral approaches often hold the position of nurture, explaining that behavior is the result of environmental influences.
